About

Improving mental health care through better tools.

Currently focusing on building an innovative, passionate, and diverse organization set out to improve the state of mental health care by making neuro-integrated, data-driven, evidence-based tools easily accessible and user-friendly to most therapists and users.

In his spare time, Alex is passionate about AI and agentic frameworks. He codes constantly and has worked on several open source projects using ML and AI to democratize the benefit of automation.

Divergence Neuro

Since 2020, Alex has been building Divergence Neuro — a remote neurofeedback and biofeedback platform that lets clinicians, coaches, and therapists run clinical-grade EEG and HRV training while clients train from home.

  • Cloud-based, clinical-grade EEG + HRV (ECG) acquisition with wireless, dry sensors
  • Proprietary signal processing that cleans ambulatory ECG/EEG noise for real-world sessions
  • Native support for research-grade hardware (Polar H10, Synchroni, TPS)
  • R&D into EEG complexity (Lempel–Ziv) and brain–heart coherence, incl. a ketamine-assisted psychotherapy study

Who is Alex Ni?
Alex Ni is a startup founder, CEO, AI architect, and neurotech engineer with over 20 years of software experience. He is the founder and CEO of Divergence Neuro, a remote neurofeedback and biofeedback platform, and focuses on making neuroscience-driven mental health tools accessible to clinicians and individuals.
What is Divergence Neuro?
Divergence Neuro is a neurotechnology company Alex Ni founded in 2020. It offers a cloud-based, clinical-grade platform for remote neurofeedback and biofeedback using EEG and heart rate variability (HRV), letting clinicians, coaches, and therapists deliver brain-and-body training while clients train from home.
What is neurofeedback, and how does Alex Ni use it?
Neurofeedback is a non-invasive technique that uses real-time EEG brainwave data to help people learn to self-regulate. Alex Ni builds neurofeedback and biofeedback technology at Divergence Neuro to support mental health, focus, stress resilience, and cognitive performance.
What is Alex Ni's background in AI?
Alex Ni has pioneered AI-augmented, specification-driven software development since 2023, working with tools like ChatGPT, Anthropic Claude, Cursor, and Claude Code. He designs agentic AI workflows and builds open-source AI projects such as CandiRank, an agentic candidate-ranking tool.
What open-source projects has Alex Ni built?
Alex Ni created Squiggly, a free, open-source EEG visualizer and analyzer that runs in the browser, and CandiRank, an agentic AI-driven candidate ranking platform. Both are available on his GitHub at github.com/alexdni.
Has Alex Ni published research?
Yes. Alex Ni co-authored Chapter 10 of 'Applied Psychology in the Modern Era' (Springer, 2025), on integrating biofeedback and neurofeedback into community-based clinical practice, and writes about EEG, HRV, and brain-heart coherence.
Where has Alex Ni been featured or interviewed?
Alex Ni has been interviewed by PolyTechTalent and has appeared on podcasts and shows including Social Work Me, Peak Human Labs, and the NeuroNoodle Network, discussing neurofeedback, neuroscience, AI, and neurotechnology.
What is Alex Ni's professional experience?
